📖 Dream: The Sun, Moon, and Stars Bow to Joseph
Actor: Joseph
Reference: Genesis 37:9–11 (KJV)
Genesis 37:9
“And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said,
Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.”
🌞🌙⭐ Dream Description:
-
In this dream, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars are shown bowing down to Joseph.
-
These heavenly bodies symbolically represent his family:
-
The sun = his father Jacob
-
The moon = his mother (or stepmother, depending on interpretation)
-
The eleven stars = his eleven brothers
-
Genesis 37:10
“And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him,
What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?”
🧠 Meaning of the Dream:
-
The dream prophesies that Joseph’s entire family—including his father—would one day bow down to him.
-
Though Jacob rebukes him, it is more from concern or disbelief than anger.
He clearly understands the symbolic meaning of the dream.
Genesis 37:11
“And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.”
-
The brothers grow even more jealous.
-
Jacob (Israel), though initially dismissive, keeps the matter in mind, suggesting he senses it may be divinely significant.
🔑 Summary:
-
This dream builds on the first dream and expands Joseph’s predicted authority to include his parents as well as his brothers.
-
It foreshadows the time when Joseph becomes ruler in Egypt and his family comes to him in need, bowing before him in reverence (Genesis 42:6; 43:26–28).
-
The two dreams together firmly establish God’s plan for Joseph’s future leadership.
